2022 is here. But will this be a year for the survival of the fittest? Maybe. Maybe not

No matter what you think, the facts are, 2022 is here and work has begun. Some of us are working from home, others from the office, while some of us are having some days at home and some in the office (hybrid work).

Set realistic targets

There is a good chance you could not execute all your plans and/or meet targets set last year due to constantly changing work dynamics and uncertainties brought by the pandemic. As you start the year enthusiastic to right all the wrongs and make up for lost times, do not fall into the trap of setting unrealistic objectives and goals.

Meeting or surpassing your targets may not come easy. You do not want to make it more difficult by setting unrealistic targets.

Sometimes, such unrealistic targets may be set by your manager. Before you hit the ground running, evaluate such targets to understand their feasibility. Discuss your findings with your manager/employer, suggesting a more realistic target where this is possible.

Set SMART Goals and Objectives

This may sound cliché, but it is always the way to go when starting a year. Ensuring your targets are realistic is one thing. Ensuring your goals/objectives are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound) is more encompassing.

Collaborate more

Our resilience has never been tested like it has since the pandemic broke. To survive work this year, there is no doubt you need to be more resilient. However, being resilient this year is not about how much you try to bottle things up and get things done. It is not all about how much you try to stay unbroken but also about how much you seek support through collaboration.

The concept of collaborating is not new but will make a huge difference in how we survive work this year and beyond.

It is okay to say NO

A yes may make you look good but hurt at the end. To survive work this year, you must understand your boundaries, knowing what works and what does not. Be brave to say No to the things that would not support your productivity and total wellbeing.

Take any opportunity to be kind

Loosen up, 2022 promises to be a fun here. But to enjoy fun, you must attract it.

Get in the fun by showing kindness with any opportunity that presents itself. Being kind to people both at work and outside will create the right enthusiasm you need to survive work in 2022
